The MTN Ghana Foundation, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing of the telecoms company, has presented personal protective equipment (PPE) to the St. Gregory Catholic Hospital in Buduburam, near Kasoa, in the Central Region.
The gesture was part of health interventions undertaken by the foundation to assist healthcare practitioners to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Items donated included thermometer guns, face masks, coveralls, hand gloves, detergents, and methylated spirit.
At a brief presentation ceremony on Wednesday, the Chief Customer Relations Officer of MTN Ghana, Jemima Kotei Walsh, said the hospital was selected due to the important role it played as a major health facility that serves Buduburam and its environs.
She indicated that about 29 health facilities and 15 senior high schools have benefited from the intervention, adding that “this is not the end of it as this is something we will do to support health facilities.”
The chaplain of the hospital, Reverend Father Daniel Ganoo, expressed appreciation to the foundation saying that the items received would augment the stock of essential items needed by the hospital to fight the pandemic.
“We have been receiving donations from corporate institutions and individuals which has really helped the hospital in fighting the pandemic,” he said.
The delay in payment of National Health Insurance debt, he said, had however, been a major challenge to the hospital in the fight against the pandemic since internally-generated income is heavily relied upon to procure PPE.
He talked about plans to expand the infrastructure of the hospital to accommodate more patients within the large catchment area of Buduburam.
He has therefore appealed to philanthropists to come to the aid of the hospital toward achieving its objectives.
