Nana Releases 150 Vehicles To School

THE AKUFO-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration yesterday released extra 100 buses and 50 double cabin pick-ups to some schools in the country.

This brings to 1,108 the total number of vehicles distributed in the education sector since 2020.

In March 2020, the government supplied 365 Isuzu double cabin pickups to various education directorates spread across the country and later released 493 motorbikes to circuit supervisors and 350 other buses.

At a presentation ceremony in Accra yesterday, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said the availability of good transportation for students positively impacts quality education delivery.

He was also of the belief that “an efficient transportation system in our schools increases student enrolment and encourages many students to stay in school.”

“Indeed, it has been said that a dependable transportation system in schools improves the safety of students and makes teachers and students more productive.”

Dr Bawumia, therefore, noted that “an efficient transportation system in schools is key to hastening the economic transformation and the development of our country as envisioned by this Government led by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

From 2017, resulting from the implementation of the free SHS, he said the government has increased secondary school enrolment to an excess of 1.2 million students.

“We have, thus, undertaken a large number of infrastructure projects, including classrooms, dormitories, administration blocks, libraries, and canteens at the secondary education level,” the Vice President noted.

He, on behalf of the government, urged the leadership and staff of the beneficiary schools to judiciously use the vehicles to achieve the objectives for which they are being provided.

Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, said this is in fulfilment of a promise by the President to transform the education system in the country by creating quality, access and relevance.

He described the President as someone who keeps his promise.  He was hopeful that they would put the vehicles to good use.

President of CHASS, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar, thanked the government for the gesture.

He believes this would go a long way to support the implementation of the Free Senior High School programme.
