Napo during the presentation at the Kumasi Children’s Home
THREE INSTITUTIONS in Kumasi, have consistently received support, in the form of food donations, from former Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, over the last 20 years.
The beneficiary institutions, all located in the Ashanti regional capital, include the Kumasi Children’s Home, the Kumasi Cheshire Home and the Edwenase Rehabilitation Center.
Nicknamed ‘Napo’ in the political circles, the former minister donates to the above mentioned institutions three times every year to make living better for residents of the homes.
Keeping the tradition, Dr. Prempeh, who is the 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, donated to the three institutions to ensure the inmates are properly fed.
He presented bags of rice, maize, sugar, gari and beans, as well as gallons of cooking oil, boxes of tin tomatoes and Geisha soap during three colourful ceremonies, which were held separately.
Napo in his succinct address, said he was acting on the word of God in the Holy Bible, which instructs Christians to always lend a helping hand to the needy in society, hence his donations.
“As Christians, it’s our duty to reach out to the needy and the poor in society just as Christ did by surrendering his life for mankind to get salvation”, Napo, who is an ex-Education Minister, said.
According to him, for the past 20 years, he has been donating to the three institutions, disclosing that he would continue to help the three beneficiary institutions feed their inmates properly.
“I have been donating to these three institutions for the last 20 years. I donate to them during Easter, then in August and climax it with a donation during the Christmas festivities.
“Today’s donation is intended to help the inmates of the three institutions to also mark the Easter festivities just as any other person in the country,” Napo disclosed with a broad smile on his face.
The former NPP MP for Manhyia South Constituency, assured the homes of his continued support to the three institutions, appealing to the affluent in society to emulate his shining example.
