One of the suspects
Two suspected thugs and activists of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who were bent on destroying bill boards and other paraphernalia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Essikado-Ketan Constituency of the Western Region have been arrested by the police.
The suspects, Asiedu Amoah and Kofi Daga were arrested last Saturday about 3am.
According to reports, the suspects tore down flags that were mounted across the streets of Essikado.
Upon interrogation by the police, Kofi Daga alleged that they were tasked by the NDC Parliamentary Candidate in the Constituency, Grace Danquah, to take down those flags close to their party office.
He stated that the NPP had no right to mount those flags across the streets close to their party office, claiming, “the NPP flags have overshadowed ours”.
Former Constituency Secretary of the NPP, Thomas Amoah, a who was with the team that fixed the NPP flags said the NDC has been notorious in destroying party paraphernalia for the past eight years.
He argued that the Constituency was not known for such acts, adding “all these started with the current NDC candidate.”
Meanwhile, the police have taken statements from the two suspects and the complainants. They have also invited the NDC candidate to answer certain allegations made against her on the matter.
Residents of the community pointed out that the level of NDC’s vandalism across the Constituency and the metropolis, was getting out of control.
They have, therefore, suggested that police prosecute the matter to serve as a deterrent to others who have been engaged in the acts of vandalism.
