Nigerians Caged For Robbery

Two Nigerians have been remanded into custody for allegedly robbing a pastor.

The two, Sunday Paul, a motor rider and his alleged accomplice, Obioha Ogonna, 20-year-old porter, were hauled before an Accra circuit court on charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit crime.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The facts of the case as presented by Superintendent Kwaku Bempah, the prosecutor, are that on 25th October, 2017, the complainant cashed an amount of GH¢1,700 from the Ring Road Central branch of GT Bank.

He said the complainant was on his way to deliver the said money to a worker at SG Bank at Kokomlemle, a suburb of Accra, when the two suspects emerged from behind the complainant and snatched a brown envelope containing the cash.

Superintendent Bempah said the Nigerians however, could not bolt with the booty as the complainant firmly held the motorbike.

The complainant then screamed for help and the accused were apprehended by some passersby and the envelope containing the money was retrieved from them.

They were subsequently sent to the Kotobabi police station where an official report was made by the complainant.

The case was adjourned to October 16, 2017.

Driver’s Mate In Hot Waters

In a related development, a 19-year-old driver’s mate, Solomon Sowah Anum, has been put before the same court for allegedly robbing and injuring an unemployed woman at Teshie.

He pleaded not guilty to the two charges.

Superintendent Bempah told the court that the complainant was returning from church on September 2, 2017 when she realised that the accused was following her.

He said about 50 metres away from the complainant’s house, Sowah Anum attacked her with a kitchen knife and slashed her right wrist, making her bleed profusely.

The accused then robbed the woman of her Blackberry mobile phone valued at GH¢850 and bolted.

The complainant then shouted for help and some people around came to her rescue and rushed her to the hospital.

According to Supt. Bempah, about 8:30 pm on September 27, 2017, the accused and one other person were found loitering at the very place the complainant was robbed.

The residents quickly mobilised and apprehended the two and upon a search conducted on them, a kitchen knife was found in the accused person’s pocket.

They were handed to the Nungua police where the complainant identified Solomon Sowah Anum as the one who robbed and injured her.

The case has been adjourned until October 16, 2017.
