Aspirants of the 2026 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position will be required to pay a total amount of GH¢600,000 which includes GH¢100,000 nomination fee and GH¢500,000 filing fee.
General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, who announced this at a press briefing yesterday in Accra when nominations were opened, said “Any member of the party wishing to apply for nomination as the party’s presidential candidate shall obtain the nomination forms after paying a non-refundable fee of One Hundred Thousand Cedis (GH¢100,000) in Bankers Draft in favour of the New Patriotic Party Headquarters, Accra.”
He further added, “The Filing Fee for the Presidential Nomination is Five Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢500,000) to be paid in Bankers Draft in favour of the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra.”
According to the party, nomination for the position of the party’s flagbearer will close on Thursday, August 28, 2025 pursuant to Article 13(1)(2) of its Constitution.
The General Secretary also indicated that apart from the fee for the nomination forms and filing fee, an aspiring presidential candidate is also required to pay a ‘Development Fee’ as determined by the National Council.
Members to participate in the Flagbearer election
Members of the party who are eligible to participate in the election, according to the General Secretary, include all members of the National Council, voting members of the National Executive Committee, all voting members of the Regional Executive Committees and all former Regional Executives.
The rest are all voting members of the constituency executive committees, all former constituency executives, all electoral area coordinators, and the five polling station executive officers in each polling station.
“All members of the National Council of Elders, the 30 members of the National Council of Patrons, all the party’s Members of Parliament, all the party’s former card bearing Members of Parliament and all former party card bearing parliamentary candidates,” he added.
9-Member Election Committee
Mr. Kodua noted that a nine-member Presidential Elections Committee chaired by Joseph Osei Owusu, former Member of Parliament for Bekwai and former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament was constituted to steer the affairs of the campaign and all issues bothering on election of the presidential candidate.
Other members of the committee are Barbara Benisa, Isaac Yaw Boamah, Ampofo Adusei, Madam Afua Gyekyewaa, Evans Nimako, William Yamoa, Madam Rita Talata Asobayere and Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah.
Vetting Committee for Presidential Election
Mr. Kodua further stated that the vetting committee for the presidential primary comprises Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, chairman, a former Member of Parliament for Manhyia, and a member of National Council of Elders, Stephen Sekyere-Abankwa, and Osei Bonsu Amoah, former Member of Parliament for Akuapem South.
Others include Dr. Lord Oblitey Commey, Elizabeth Ohene, and Evans Nimako, Rita Talata Asobayere, Frank Davis, Kwesi Amoako Atta and Hackman Owusu Agyemang.
Akwatia By-election
Mr. Kodua said the party is fully prepared to take part in the Akwatia by-election following consensus by various stakeholders and officers to select Solomon Kwame Asumadu to contest on the ticket of the party.
He indicated that the National Committee of the party is prepared to support and give its candidate all the necessary assistance to enable him retain the seat, while commending members of the committee and executives of the party at Akwatia for their support.
