NPP Selecting Bawumia “Disarms” NDC’s Ethnocentric Tactics – Agyepong

Kwabena Agyepong, Senior Campaign Adviser to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has claimed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer’s candidacy has neutralized the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) historical reliance on ethnocentric tactics.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Agyepong argued that Dr. Bawumia’s selection as NPP flagbearer has disrupted the NDC’s narrative, portraying the ruling party as an “Akan party” to sway voters.

“The NDC has been masters in propaganda… They resurrected the Alien Compliance Order. They have been telling the whole world that the NPP is an Asante party, that we don’t respect people from the North,” Agyepong said.

However, with Dr. Bawumia, a Northerner and Muslim, as the NPP’s flagbearer, Agyepong believes the NDC’s tactics have been rendered ineffective.

“I’m pretty confident that we may surprise a few in Accra… Electing Dr. Bawumia has disarmed the NDC of their most potent propaganda weapon,” Agyepong emphasized.

This development comes after years of NDC accusations that the NPP is an “Akan party.”

Former President John Mahama had previously questioned whether the NPP would give Dr. Bawumia the nod, citing ethnic biases.

However, Kwabena Agyepong’s assertions highlight the significance of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy in transcending ethnic lines and demonstrating the NPP’s inclusivity.
