SIXTY-FIVE selected teachers in the Kwahu-South District of the Eastern Region have been honoured by the Obomengman Association – a union of citizens of Kwahu Obomeng across the country.

The chief of Obomeng, Nana Effah Opinamang III, who chaired the event, spoke on the theme: “Quality Education Delivery, The Role of Stakeholders”.

He tasked the teachers to abide by the rules and regulations put in place by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to help promote quality teaching and learning in the country.

He also commended the award winners and urged them to continue to work hard in every capacity they found themselves to make the teaching profession an enviable one.

Special guest of honour, Nana Akwasi Abankwah, who is the chief of Kwahu Citizens in the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions, and also a member of the Asanteman Traditional Council, advised the parents to take interest in their children’s education and monitor their movement to stop them from getting involved in immoral activities.

He said teachers have a great responsibility to educate the Ghanaian child to help develop the country. He also tasked traditional authorities in the area to help create an enabling environment for quality education delivery.

Also, commending President Akufo-Addo for implementing the Free SHS policy, Nana Ablakwa called on Ghanaians to rally behind the government to succeed.

He further said his outfit had introduced a five-year programme to continuously reward hard-working teachers in communities within the Obomeng Traditional Area.

The association is considering a collaboration with the Kwahu South District Education Directorate to award more teachers in the district at the next awards presentation.

Kwahu South Director of Education, Sampson Klu, in a speech, commended the association for the gesture. Besides, he appealed to government to consider Obomeng when selections are being done for the National Teachers Awards.

Teachers who were rewarded were selected from public basic schools in the Kwahu South District. Some of their prizes included deep freezers, gas cookers, television sets and standing fans, among others.
