Gas Explosion at Lamashegu in Tamale

One person has been confirmed dead in the Northern Regional capital of Tamale in a gas explosion.

Six persons reportedly sustained various degrees of injury in the incident that happened at the industrial area at 11:49 am.

The injured persons are receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

An eyewitness at the scene of the explosion, Benjamin Mensah, told DAILY GUIDE that something shook his office which is close to the kiosk where the incident took place.

He said it was after that that they came out to realize it was an explosion from a welding kiosk opposite the office.

The explosion uprooted some trees, broke the wind screen of a car and damaged the tyre of a tractor.

The timely intervention of the Fire Service brought the blaze under control.

The Fire Service PRO, one Opoku, told DAILY GUIDE that the hands and the legs of the deceased person, one Mallam Yahaya, were cut off by the explosion whiles others were severely injured.

According to him, the explosion resulted from a faulty gas cylinder at a welder’s workshop at Lamashegu.

Mr Opoku indicated that an investigation would be carried out around the industrial area.
