Osu Castle Not Security Zone – Museum Board Exposes Joy News

THE GHANA Museums and Monument Board has stated categorically that Osu Christiansborg Castle is a museum and not a security installation as Joy News is fighting to make Ghanaians to think.

It would be recalled that on Thursday, March 7, 2019, Joy News aired a documentary produced by its investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, claiming that a “militia” named De-Eye Group believed to be linked to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was training at the Castle.

The station described the Castle, the former seat of government as a security zone.

But Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah came out on March 8, 2019 to dismiss the claim that Castle was a security zone and that the group was linked to the NPP.

Joy News has remained insistent that the Castle is a security zone.

However, the Ghana Museums and Monument Board in a statement said the Castle seized to be a security zone since March 5, 2017 when President Akufo-Addo declared and inaugurated it as a Presidential Museum for leadership and governance.

The statement signed by the Acting Executive Director of Ghana Museums and Monument Board, Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamoah, said “the Osu Castle is not a security installation. The military and security sensitivities associated with it have since been withdrawn.”
