President of the Professionals Golf Association (PGA), Tony Mintah, has stated that pushing golf across the country remains his outfit’s topmost priority.
He expressed gross satisfaction after the maiden PGA Gold Fields Accra golf tournament held at the Tema Country Golf Club over the weekend.
To him, the high level of competition demonstrated by participants drawn from across the country places the PGA on a right footing to embark on the nationwide campaign.
“I am highly impressed with the level of competition. I know the competition went well taking into account it was played with no cut. We are looking forward to taking golf to every corner of the country. We thank Gold Fields for sponsoring this event and previous ones all these while,” the PGA chief said after the 54-hole event.
Vincent Torgah produced a-10 under par score (206 points) over three days to finish tops of the PGA Gold Fields Accra golf tournament.
He shrugged off stiff competition from seasoned golfers like Emos Korblah, Victor Brave Mensah to win the pros event ahead of Korblah, beating him by three strokes.
And with a total points of 210 over three days, Francis Torgah, his elder twin brother, finished third.
The ultimate winner’s effort was rewarded with a cash prize of GH¢6,000, while golfers who placed in the top 18 all received attractive cash prizes
Second placed Korblah recorded 68 points on day one, 71 on day two and 70 on the third day to total 209, while Torgah (Francis) had 67, 73 and 70 on the three days.
Lucky Ayisah, 213 points; Kojo Barnni, 213 points; Maxwell Owusu Bonsu, 216; Philip Paitey, 217 points; Peter Amenyo, 217 points; Anthony Gbenyor, 219 points and John Mawuli, 219 points occupied the seventh to 10th positions respectively.
Victor Brave Mensah won the seniors professionals event, which also had attractive prizes just like the amateur events.
