Robert Charlotte
An exhibition of pictures taken by French photographer Robert Charlotte over the past month in Ghana will open at the Alliance Française in Accra on Thursday, September 20.
The exhibition, which forms part of Nuku Photos Festival 2018, focuses on portraits by Charlotte that powerfully express the collective pictorial images of Accra alongside individual trajectories, while showcasing the city through his powerful lens.
Titled ‘Correspondence’, it forms part of a wider project, ‘African-Caribbean Transatlantic Artistic Dialogues’, meant to stimulate the creation of new works by crossing ideas, languages, aesthetics and African – Caribbean territories through cross-residencies and to encourage transnational artistic and cultural exchanges.
“Through portraits, places visited and places of creation, I try to live this buried feeling of intimacy; I try to take, see, feel and bring to life this transatlantic dialogue with strength and determination while envisaging a lucid and serene future,” Charlotte said..
According to Frédéric Dart, Director of the Alliance Française, the project illustrates its deep belief in the virtues of dialogue and mutual understanding through art and science.
“Consequently, we will also work toward pursuing exchanges with the French Caribbean next year,” he added.
Alliance Française Accra, Institut Français, Fondation Clément and the Embassy of France in Ghana are supporting the exhibition, which ends on Sunday, October 14.
