Police Officers Schooled On Transformation Agenda

Police Officers at the Sensitization programme

The Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Dedjoe Redeemer has called on personnel of the Service to be professional in all their activities, in order not to fall out of the Ghana Police Transformation Agenda, being spearheaded by the I.G.P, David Asante-Apeatu.

According to the Regional Commander, the Inspector General of Police(IGP) wants the Ghana Police Service to handle policing services as a profession, hence, his decision to ensure that, all Police Stations across the country display the Mission and Vision statements of the Ghana Police Service, to serve as a reminder to all personnel in the conduct of their duties.

DCOP Dedjoe was speaking at the opening of a one-day sensitization workshop on the Ghana Police Transformation Agenda for Senior Officers and District Commanders drawn from all over the Upper East Region.

The training was expected to get the Senior Officers to understand the Transformation Agenda to enable them lead the other Police Officers through the process to make the Ghana Police Service the best in Africa and among the best ten(10) in the world.

The nationwide sensitization programme for Police Officers is being funded by the Hanns Seidel Foundation; a German Organization. Prior to this programme, the Foundation had supported the Ghana Police Service to run some training programme for police personnel under a project dubbed, “Citizen-Friendly Policing” to activate community policing.

The Programme Coordinator of Hanns Seidel Foundation, Aridja Frank in an interview said, the Foundation was satisfied with the outcome of the earlier collaboration it had with the Ghana Police Service.

“We’re looking forward to the day the Ghana Police Service will become the best in Africa and among the best 10 in the world. This is the vision of the leadership of the Ghana Police Service and we, as citizens, must support this vision,” Mrs. Aridja Frank said.

She called on Ghanaians to be interested in helping the Ghana Police Service to become citizen-friendly, professional and proactive in their duty to prevent and fight crime and protect lives and property.

“We cannot hide information from them and expect them to do magic. The media for example should be educating the public on the processes under the Transformation Agenda and encourage them to report all suspected criminals in our communities. That way, we will be helping the Police to either prevent or fight crime.”

An Executive Secretary to the IGP, DSP Peter Toobu advised Police Commanders across the country to lead the personnel under them, in a way that will make them better Police Officers.

He advised Police Officers to live exemplary lives in their communities and respect members of the public so as to attract respect and support from them.
