Prez Cup Match Rained Off …Rescheduled For Today

This year’s President Cup match between the two glamorous clubs, Kotoko and Hearts, was rained off during the second half at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi yesterday, with scores pegged at 1-1.

Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah and other dignitaries were present.

A sudden heavy downpour made ball control extremely difficult for players of both teams so Referee William Agbovi had no option than to call off the match.

GHALCA, organizers of the titanic match, therefore postponed the game to today (Monday), which is a national holiday, for the combatants to clash again to decide a winner.

Prior to the incident, both Kotoko and Hearts sold out a beautiful game to the sizeable number of football fans that thronged the Baba Yara Stadium.

Kotoko clearly dominated the first half, as they piled pressure on a hapless Hearts of Oak, right from the start of the game. The home team enjoyed a lion’s share of possession.

Kotoko in the 24 minute translated their dominance into a goal, as they deservedly opened the deadlock.

Sadick Adams blasted home from the spot after Obed Owusu was fouled by Richard Akrofi in the Hearts vital area.

Kotoko could have increased their lead but lack of precision upfront denied them a possible second goal.

The Porcupine Warriors missed series of begging chances that came their way.

After recess, Hearts of Oak looked fired up, as they made incursions into the Kotoko goal area, thereby causing nightmarish experiences for the red army Kotoko supporters.

Just five minutes after the break, Hearts of Oak drew level after Vincent Atinga scored from close range. The Kotoko defenders failed woefully to deal with an incisive corner kick by Patrick Razak.

The heavens suddenly opened, forcing the referee to end proceedings midstream.
