Rapperholic 2018 audience. INSET: Sarkodie
The 2018 edition of Sarkodie’s Rapperholic concert, which was held on December 25, has come and gone but not without criticisms.
Majority of patrons who attended the concert, held at International Conference Centre in Accra, have accused organisers of selling more tickets than the venue could contain.
This led to an overcrowding. Some VIP ticket holders, as a result, could not go beyond the gate of the auditorium.
Some of the patrons took to social media during and after the show to register their disappointment.
“MY Sarkodie #rapperholic experience ended at 9:30pm. You pay for VIP ticket and cannot even find a place to stand. TOTAL FRAUD!!!. I left they should keep the money,” one Evens Mensah wrote on Twitter.
“@sarkodie I like your concerts but you please note that your fan base has out grown the AICC. We are suffocating. Kindly get a bigger venue next year #Rapperholic,” Nafisatu Sulemana also twitted.
“Clearly @sarkodie commands the sort of clout to fill auditoriums. If the Conference Centre is too small for you, move to the Fantasy Dome or even the Stadium. People can’t pay for ‘VIP’ and made to stand in walkways. #Rapperholic2018,” Kwame Gyan also said on Twitter.
Rapperholic is an annual concert organised by Sarkodie and his Sarkcess Music Company. The concert is to celebrate with the rapper’s followers every year on December 25.
It is currently one of the biggest music events in Ghana since it started seven years ago. It comes with a lot of excitement every year with several other big names in the music industry joining the multiple award-winning rapper to thrill patrons.
This year’s event had performances from Kwesi Arthur, King Promise, Efya, Wendy Shay, Ex-Doe, Chicago and host of others. But the fans were not pleased with the turn of events.
Sarkodie’s management had later apologised for the inconveniences fans were put through.
“Staying up in this auditorium from 2am all thru (through) the day to see pple (people) go through the same struggle from last year just defeated my spirit… it was key for us this year but all the same God bless whoever that came through…apologies to whoever that wasn’t satisfied…could always be better though but def appreciate the love RAPPERHOLIC 18 Chale despite whatever lows saw major highs… it’s my prayer the year 2019 brings each n every one of us major success…happiness… wealth good health…Promotions…breakthroughs…hits…wisdom…major moves Chale…thank u for coming through 2018 with us…HAPPY NEW YEAR Guys,” Sarkodie’s manager, Angel Town, said on Instagram.
