The Registrar General’s Department has opened a new regional office in Sunyani to cater for company and marriage registration applicants in the Bono Region.

This brings to four the number of branch offices so far opened since coming into effect of the new Registrar General’s Department Act, Act 992, 2019.

The Registrar General’s Department already has branch offices in Sekondi-Takoradi, Kumasi and Tamale.

The Registrar General, Jemima Oware, in her opening remarks, said the official launch would take place this year.

However, the opening was to enable the department to commence operations to cater for applicants in Sunyani and other towns in the region. The office is located in the Sunyani office of the Social Security & National Insurance Trust Building (SSNIT).

“Our functions are to register businesses, sole proprietorship, companies, marriages and give special licence to couples, churches, among other functions. The office will do everything that is done in Accra so there is no need to travel to Accra or Kumasi to do business with us,” she said.

According to her, the Registrar General’s Department which functions under the Attorney General’s Department is regulated by many acts, adding the new act which was gazetted in August 2019 requires the department to decentralise its offices in all the 16 regions of the country.

Ms. Oware advised the public to walk directly into the offices and conduct business with officers of the department instead of doing business with ‘goro boys’.

“It is worrying to note that some unscrupulous people demand payment of moneys into a MoMo account to transact business with us. Let me emphasise here clearly through your medium that the department does not have any MoMo account and has not sanctioned any officer(s) working with us to collect moneys on our behalf. If you do it, it is at own risk,” she warned.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Sunyani, Justina Awo Banahene, was happy to see the office opened in Sunyani, particularly for registration of marriages, which she noted is a problem to many couples in the municipality, so she called on residents to rush and legalise their marriages.
