Rocky Dawuni
Ghanaian reggae sensation, Rocky Dawuni, has once again made history, earning his fourth Grammy nomination with his latest single, ‘Rise.’
Nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category for the 2025 Grammy Awards, this nod cements Dawuni’s status as the most-nominated Ghanaian artist in Grammy history.
Speaking in an Instagram post, he wrote, “This one is for Ghana! I am honoured to announce the Grammy nomination for my new single ‘Rise’ for Best Global Music Performance. This is the first single from my forthcoming album, which is set to drop very soon. As a music maker, my main mission has been to use my sonic creations to inspire a deeper sense of connection. ‘Rise’ is a song that has been growing in its message and resonance since its release, leading up to this nomination. My humble appreciation to all the people who worked hard to make this happen. Now is the time to go stream and listen to ‘Rise’ on all your music platforms.”
Rocky Dawuni’s Grammy journey began in 2015 when his album ‘Branches of The Same Tree’ earned a nomination for Best Reggae Album. His next nomination came in 2021 for ‘Voice of Bunbon Vol. 1’ in the Best Global Music Album category, and in 2023, his single ‘Never Bow Down’ was nominated for Best Global Music Performance.
This year, ‘Rise’ competes against other global stars, including Angélique Kidjo & Soweto Gospel Choir, Arooj Aftab, Jacob Collier featuring Anoushka Shankar & Varijashree Venugopal, Masa Takumi with Ron Korb, Noshir Mody & Dale Edward Chung, and Sheila E. featuring Gloria Estefan & Mimy Succar.
Although Ghana missed out on a nomination in the new Best African Music Performance category, the nation will be closely following Dawuni’s journey as he represents Ghana on the Grammy stage.
The 2025 Grammy Awards will be held on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, USA, where Dawuni hopes to bring home the Grammy and continue his mission of uniting people through music.
