Russian killed in a car crush on the Airport road
A 44-year-old Russian was Wednesday night killed in a gory accident on the Airport road, Accra. A motor bike which he was riding reportedly ran into a stationary vehicle.
The deceased, identified as Andrew Trofimou, died on the spot at about 11:45 pm, according to reports.
Eyewitness account indicated that the deceased, who had been plying the route for the past years, was riding at top speed but did not notice the presence of the vehicle.
The faulted navy blue DAF truck with registration number MUS 309XN – a Nigerian number plate – Â Â was said to have developed a fault and had blocked two of the lanes from the Shangrila curve in the Tema direction.
The witness said the vehicle, driven by Sunday Adeagbo, was left in the middle of the road for some hours before the accident.
The commanding officer in-charge of the Airport Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) DSP A.O. Akrofi, told DAILY GUIDE that Andrew Trofimou, who was riding a BMW motorbike with registration number M-16 GR 3004, was from Shangrila and going towards East Legon where he lived.
DSP A.O. Akrofi said on reaching HIPC junction, Andrews was not careful and attentive and ran into the rear of the DAF truck.
The driver, Sunday Adeagbo, is currently with the police to answer questions.
Meanwhile, the body of Andrew has been deposited at the Police Hospital for preservation.
