Alban S.K. Bagbin
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin has expressed fears that government may not be able to pay salaries within the next three months.
According to him, there is the need to take urgent steps to prevent that from happening.
“This is not to discourage the committee from doing their work. If something is not done within the next three months, the government may not be able to pay salaries,” Speaker Bagbin made this disclosure on the floor of Parliament Thursday February 25, 2022, saying that per information at his disposal.
He has therefore called on MPs to show leadership in these difficult times and act immediately.
According to him, “So we have to take leadership. We have to do a lot of things.”
His concerns come amid labour agitations for better conditions of service as well as rising costs of living, even as the government struggles to get through the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy commonly called the E-levy which it has touted as a major remedy to the country’s many financial challenges.
