The alleged ‘fake’ doctor
A young man who posed as a medical doctor to ostensibly rob unsuspecting patients of various sums of money and their items at the Takoradi hospital, is on the run.
The young man whose name has been given only as Jude, allegedly presented a fake attachment letter from the University of Ghana Medical School to the Takoradi hospital administration seeking an internship as a junior doctor.
According to report, Jude used his access to patients at the hospital to convince them to hand over their phones and various items to him for safekeeping.
He also collected the phones of patients after telling them that thieves had been coming to the hospital to attack the patients and that the phones would be kept safely for them.
“He also convinced the patients to unlock the phones since someone might urgently call them,” a source indicated.
It was also gathered that Jude was able to use the unlocked mobile phones of the patients to communicate with some of their close contacts to ostensibly make monetary demands from them.
“Jude was posing as the doctor taking care of the patients and was using their phones to inform the relatives that the patient needed money for urgent medical care,” the source said.
“The people he contacted thought they were chatting with the doctor and so some of them sent undisclosed amount to him at the hospital,” a source added.
When DAILY GUIDE contacted the Public Relations Officer of the Western Regional Health Directorate, Esther Samira Awudu Issakah for confirmation she told the paper to contact the Administrator of the Takoradi hospital.
When the Administrator of the hospital was reached by DAILY GUIDE, he also told the paper to contact the Regional Health Directorate for details but stressed that the person in question was not a doctor at the hospital.
