Doctors and nurses at Abrefi Women and Children Hospital in Techiman in Bono East Region have received anesthetic machine from Obapack Company Limited for their routine procedures.

The administrator of the hospital, Richard Asamoah, noted that since the health centre was upgraded to a hospital in 2017 to take special care of women and children, it had struggled to carry out basic operations such as theatre procedures because of the lack of anesthetic machine.

“So, we reached out to various philanthropists and organization to come to our aid, and fortunately, Obapack Company, producers of processed vegetables in Techiman, listened to our cries and this is what we are seeing today.  We are grateful to them.

“Our Out Patient Department (OPD) cases, daily stands at 130, and in a month we treat about 3,000 patients.  Thank God we have gone paperless and no longer using folders. We are a specialist hospital but we don’t have specialists like a pediatrician and gynecologist so we are pleading with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) through the Bono East Regional Health Directorate to get us two specialists,” he noted.

He added that “currently we have two medical doctors, two midwives and nurses. Averagely we deliver 15 babies a month and since we started as a hospital, our infant mortality rate is zero.”

Mr. Asamoah further appealed for patient monitors, theatre lamp and theatre bed,” adding, “We have a theatre bed, but it is old and breaks down often.”

According to him, the most common diseases reported to the hospital include malaria, skin diseases and upper respiratory tract infections.

The officer in charge of the OPD, Yahaya Hunu, thanked the company for the kind gesture and appealed for oxygen cylinders, chairs for the OPD, nebulin sterilizer and washing machines.

Marketing manager of the Obapack Company Limited, Chris Sarkodie, was happy his outfit was able to satisfy one of the critical needs of the hospital.

“It costs us GH¢60,000 and so I plead with the hospital management to take good care of it,” he said.
