Abandoned Nurses bungalow
An uncompleted four bedroom chamber and hall self-contained bungalow dedicated to nurses at the Anyanui Health Centre, a facility which serves about 10 communities in the Anloga District of the Volta Region has been abandoned.
According to the assembly member of Anyanui community, Edwin Kusime, the construction of the nurses’ bungalow was an initiative by members of the community.
This was to solve the inadequate accommodation challenge faced by nurses working in the District’s health center.
He said “with the support of the community, we started building the self-contained nurses bungalow for the clinic, but the project has come to a halt.”
Mr. Kusime further indicated that through a percentage derived from the sales of premix fuel from the government allocated to the community they also mobilized materials to construct a four-bedroom bungalow for the nurses.
For years, however, the community has been unable to complete the construction due to the high cost of construction materials, economic hardship, and lack of support from benevolent and government agencies.
In an interview with some nurses of the clinic, lack of accommodation within the facility has compelled them to rent apartments in the town far from the clinic. This prevents them from attending to emergency cases at night.
Also, Mr. Kusime stated that the Anyanui Health Centre facility has been functional for almost 14 years now but lacks development and has many challenges such as; unequipped medical laboratory, poor electrification, inadequate wards, insufficient nursing staffs, congestion of Outpatient Department (OPD), inadequate structure for maternity wards and lack of accommodation for nurses among others.
In an interview with some nurses of the clinic, lack of accommodation within the facility has compelled them to rent apartments in the town far from the clinic. This prevents them from attending to emergency cases at night.
“We are compelled to stay on the outskirts of town due to the lack of accommodation for we health workers. In some cases some of the nurses posted to work here after knowing the predicament request for reposting making it difficult for our operations,” they added.
The nurses further pleaded with the government, individuals and organizations to come to their aid and assist the community in completing this abandoned structure.
