The January 2019 edition of Webometrics Ranking of World Universities on tertiary institutions in Ghana has placed the University of Ghana, Legon as number one.
The rankings placed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast and University for Development Studies 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
Privately owned Garden City University College, placed fifth ahead of University of Education, Winneba (6th) and Ashesi University (7th).
Indicators used for the ranking were Presence, Impact, Transparency and Excellence.
Although ranked 1st in Ghana, the nation’s premier university ranked 19th in Africa, ahead of University of Free State, South Africa (20), Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia (21) and Kenyatta University, Kenya (22).
The ranking featured 66 Ghanaian institutions.
