Tamale Children’s Home
Water crisis has hit the Tamale Children’s Home in the Northern Region for the past three months.
The home’s water system has been disconnected due to its indebtedness to the Ghana Water Company.
Electricity is also one of the challenges facing the home as it has been provided with a prepaid meter and so purchases power at very expensive rate. Information available indicates that sometimes the children sleep in darkness for days.
The supervisor of the Tamale Children’s Home, Madam Augustine Quainoo who confirmed the situation to DAILY GUIDE, said the institution owes the Ghana Water Company an amount of over GH¢10,000.
According to her, the home currently gets water from some individuals who know of their situation.
The supervisor stated that all efforts being made to the Ghana Water Company to reconnect the home for water supply had proved futile.
Madam Quainoo indicated that the land of the home has been encroached by residents to build stores and other structures.
She disclosed that even though the children benefit from the health insurance scheme, sometimes drugs are prescribed and they have to purchase them outside the hospital.
She thanked the first lady, Lordina Mahama, for her assistance to the home and urged other institutions and individuals to come to their aid.
The Tamale Children’s Home currently has a total number of 26 children.
