We’re Still Part Of Dagbon Peace Deal –Andani Elders

Vo-Na with some chiefs of the   Andani Royal Family in Tamale

Elders of the Andani Royal Family have insisted that the funeral of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II will be performed as scheduled.

“Let it be known by all that the Andani Royal Family accepts this decision and will implement it soon after members of the Abudu Royal Family complete the funeral rites of former Ya-Naa Mahamadu Abudulai. This decision is based on the roadmap to peace agreed upon by the two royal families on March 30, 2006’.

According to the Elders of the Andani family, the kingmakers comprising Kuga Naa, Tuguri Nam, Gomle and Kpati Naa will select a new Ya-Naa on Friday night 19th January, 2019, the day the funeral rites of Naa Yakubu II will be concluded.

The Elders of the Andani family indicated that the new Ya-Naa will as soon as possible, and in accordance with the roadmap, install the regents of former Ya-Naa Mahamadu Abudulai and Naa Yakubu II.

Some members of the Andani Royal Family announced their withdrawal from the mediation process being undertaken by the Committee of Eminent Chiefs headed by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

They accused the Asantehene of parading a group of imposters as representatives of the Andani Royal Family thereby creating the false impression that a settlement has been reached between the two royal families.

The press conference which was held in Tamale was attended by the Vo-Naa, and some powerful chiefs from the Andani Royal Family.

Baba Issifu, who read the statement on behalf of the Andani Elders in Tamale said the Vo-Na, Lamashe-Na represented the Andani family at the Manhyia Palace while three other members of the family (Gburiman Dana, Regent of Zangbolun and Regent of Tibung) were selected by the Head of the Andani family to represent the family at the Jubilee House.

‘So for Kampakuya-Naa or anyone to claim that members of the Andani family at the Jubilee House were not authorized representatives of the family is totally untrue’.

He stated that the Andani family is at a loss when faceless people who had never represented the Andani at the Mediation Committee described persons who had duly represented the family for not less than ten (10) years as imposters.

The Elders of the Andani family indicated that by Dagbon customs and traditions, it is the uncles and brothers of the deceased person who are responsible for performing his funeral rites but not his children.

‘Let Kampakuya-Naa and the faceless so called Andani family representatives to the peace talks know that if they create problems greater than what exists in Dagbon now, the law will deal with them. No one is bigger than the law,’ the Elders stated.
