Edwin Tuffuor Frimpong, Eric Donkor, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi
Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Obed Acheampong has allayed fears of their supporters following the sacking of three players last week by claiming they were surplus to requirement.
Defenders Eric Donkor, Edwin Tuffour Frimpong and Frank Sarfo Gyamfi were the players to be officially released by the club.
The club released an official statement on their twitter page in that effect which read, “Official ????: We wish to formally announce the mutual contract termination of the following players: Edwin Tuffour Frimpong, Eric Donkor, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi.
“We’re grateful for their services and cherish the successes we chalked together. Wishing them the best! #AKSC”
According to Obed, the decision was taken by the technical team and management and it was based on footballing reasons and not disciplinary issues.
“For instance, in the case of the deputy captain, Eric Donkor, we have two players at the left back positions and we have a lot of options over there as well.
“For now, we have two young players who are performing very well and Eric has fallen down the pecking order. The club parted ways with these players on mutual consent and not based on any disciplinary issues.
“Upon recommendations from the technical team, we were told to allow these players to join other teams as the transfer window has been opened.
“Moving forward we realize there will be a need for change”, he added.
Meanwhile, top striker, Saddick Adams, Yakubu Mohammed, Obed Owusu and defender Seth Opare have been put on the transfer-list.
