Ekua Gyasiwa’ son
Residents of Adum Banso in the Western Region have vented their spleen on a 26-year-old woman, Ekua Gyasiwa – native of Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region – who allegedly abandoned her one-and-a-half-year-old son in a forest for close to six days.
Ekua Gyasiwa purportedly wanted the little boy to die in the forest.
She reportedly claimed that she carried out the barbaric act because the son was not handsome and so she decided to dump the innocent child to be devoured by any of the wild animals in the jungle.
According to the residents, the alleged inhumane act by the suspect had dented their image and stressed that no native of the area would carry out such an abominable act.
“We were astonished when we heard the news. No wonder the woman is not a native of Adum Banso; because nobody from this place will think of abandoning a child in a forest to die, no matter the circumstances,” one of the residents remarked.
This came to light when DAILY GUIDE visited Adum Banso yesterday to interact with some of the residents for their reactions after the news broke in the area.
Ekua Gyasiwa was arrested by the police last Tuesday for allegedly abandoning her son to die in the forest.
Apart from claiming that the son was not handsome, the mother of four also pointed out that she was no more interested in the marriage with the children’s father and that prompted her action.
According to sources, Ekua Gyasiwa left the little boy with the father at Abura Dunkwa because of some misunderstandings that ensued between them and relocated to a village called K9, near Adum Banso.
However, the mother recently went for the baby, claiming that she had met a man who was ready to take care of him.
Some of the residents narrated that the mother later allegedly hatched a plan to kill the little boy. “So Ekua Gyasiwa allegedly gave the child a local gin called akpeteshie and took him to the forest and left him there,” this paper was informed by a man who did not want his name mentioned.
He indicated that after four days, a farmer in the area visited his farm near the forest and as he was working, he heard the cry of a baby and quickly ran back to inform the elders of the town.
He indicated that the elders reported the matter to the police at Adum Bamso in the Mpohor District of the region.
Chief Inspector Edward Addo of Adum Bamso confirmed the story to this paper.
He said the farmer led the police to the forest at a place called K4, an adjoining village, where the child was rescued after a brief search, with some abrasions on his body.
Chief Inspector Addo pointed out that the little boy was then taken to a local clinic at Adum Bamso where he is currently being taken care of. He indicated that later an announcement was made for the residents to come and identify the little boy.
“A girl, who identified the child, assisted the police to trace the mother at a nearby village called K9 on the same day, Tuesday, August 2, 2016. The suspect was subsequently arrested and brought to the police station,” he added.
He mentioned that interrogation of the mother revealed that she dumped the child in the forest on Tuesday, July, 26, 2016.
According to the police officer, the 26-year-old Ekua Gyasiwa was charged with exposing a child to harm and was put before court yesterday.
