THE OMANHENE of the New Juaben Traditional Council, Daasebre Prof. (Emeritus) Oti Boateng, has launched a root-based development model (RBM) project dubbed ‘Operation Clean Communities’ in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

As part of the initiative, waste management giant Zoomlion Ghana Limited presented waste bins, assorted drinks and a cash sum of GH¢10,000 to support the New Juaben Traditional Council for the ‘Operation Clean Communitiesproject.

This initiative is one of six thematic development concerns of the root-based model aimed at complementing government’s effort in reducing the spread of COVID-19 and the four main communicable diseases – malaria, cholera, typhoid and measles – in the traditional area.

Speaking at the launch, Daasebre Oti Boateng disclosed that the project is one that requires residents to look beyond themselves and take a “collective responsibility” in tackling issues of sanitation in the communities.

According to him, it will feature trained personnel in a comprehensive health education of households within the two municipalities constituting the traditional area.

By this strategy, the operation is expected to break the pathway of disease transmission, not only for COVID-19, but also for the four major communicable diseases revealed as afflicting the communities in the root-based survey conducted in 2020.

The launching also brought on board the Municipal Chief Executives of New Juaben North and New Juaben South, Comfort Asante and Isaac Appaw Gyasi respectively, who commended the Omanhene for the “laudable initiative”.

The chairperson for the occasion, Mrs. Sophia Nana Kudjorji, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Jospong Group, representing the Executive Chairman of the Company, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, was full of praise for the Omanhene, and assured him of their commitment to ensure a successful implementation of the project.

She advised the inhabitants to ensure they keep their environment clean in order to prevent the communicable diseases affecting the communities and see waste management as a collective responsibility.

The Communications and Corporate Affairs Director of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Emma Adwoa Appiah Osei-Duah presented waste bins, assorted drinks and the cash sum to support the New Juaben Traditional Council for the project.

Daasebre Oti Boateng commended waste management experts, Zoomlion, for the introduction of the “1Million Waste Bins Project” aimed at ensuring that every household owned a waste bin.
