150 Suspected Criminals Busted

A joint operation organised by the Accra Regional Police Command and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly has led to the arrest of 150 suspected criminals in various criminal dens within Nkrumah Circle and Agbogbloshie.

Some quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, whitish substances suspected to be cocaine, a foreign pistol and two vehicles with Nigerian number plates suspected to be stolen vehicles, were some of the items seized by the police during the operation.

Some number of wooden structures believed to be brothels and other dwelling places of the suspected criminals were also demolished by the team in the course of the operation.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Adusei Sarpong, said the 10-hour operation was led by the Deputy Regional Commander, DCOP Boadu Preprah.

He said the exercise was part of efforts to clamp down on armed robbery and other criminal activities within the metropolis.

The team first visited Nkrumah Circle behind Vodafone and arrested some of the suspects believed to be criminals.

DCOP Patrick Adusei Sarpong said at Nkrumah Circle, the police recovered two suspected stolen vehicles – a Toyota Camry with a Nigerian  registration number KTV 336 SA and a Benz Wagon with registration number UBJ 772MQ.

Over 50 suspected criminals were busted in that operation and a number of illegal structures were also demolished.

He said that the team later moved to Agbogbloshie where additional suspects were apprehended.

Some quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and some whitish substances suspected to be cocaine were recovered from them.

He disclosed that the suspects were screened. The 150 criminals busted were those found with the seized items during the operation.

“The suspects will be sent to court for prosecution,” he added.
