Two persons who were allegedly preparing to rob unsuspecting residents of Asankragua in the Western Region of their valuable belongings, have been apprehended.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Abdul-Salam, 28, and Karim Yakubu, 42, were spotted hiding in a bush along a section of the road.
They were arrested by the Western Central Regional Police Command when they were purportedly preparing to commit robbery.
According to a statement from the Regional Police Command, upon noticing a police patrol team, the suspects attempted to flee the scene, prompting a swift pursuit by the police officers.
The pursuit led to an abandoned mining site, where the suspects jumped into a muddy pit in an attempt to evade capture.
However, the police officers managed to rescue them from the pit and successfully arrested them.
The statement indicated that a search conducted at the time of arrest led to the retrieval of one shotgun, three AAA cartridges and one Nokia keypad mobile phone.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
