Nurse ‘Killers’ Remanded

PRIME suspects in the murder of Ruth Ama Eshun, a Community Health Nurse at Sewua-Ayuom in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, have been remanded in police custody.

According to a press release signed by the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP David Agyeman Adjem, which is the first official statement from the police since the suspected rape and subsequent gruesome murder, two people are now being held in connection with the case.

The statement mentioned the first suspect to be picked up was Dominic Fosu, 35, and added that a fresh arrest had been made in the person of Kofi Gariba, aka Amanya Atiuwnti, 37.

It said that the Asokwa District Court, presided over by Korkor Achaw Owusu, remanded suspect Dominic Fosu and he is expected in court on Wednesday, February 26.

According to the statement, Fosu’s Samsung mobile phone was retrieved from the crime scene and that helped the police to arrest him on February 5 at Sewua Aboaso.

It also described Kofi Gariba as a mason apprentice who was arrested last Thursday in connection with the murder and would also be arraigned soon.

The police assured the bereaved family and the public that they were determined to arrest all those involved in the heinous crime and urged the public to continue to volunteer information.

Nurse Goes Home

In a related development, there was tight security at Sewua last Saturday as the remains of the nurse, whose death has sparked uproar, were finally interred.

Armed policemen were seen standing at vantage points at Sewua, before, during and after the solemn burial ceremony.

It was rumoured that Ruth’s killers also raped her before ending her life in a gruesome manner.
