2 Get 30 Years For Robbing Students

Two persons were yesterday jailed by an Accra circuit court to a total of 30 years with hard labour for robbery.

They are Prince Adom, welder and Yaw Fosu aka Atongo, a mechanic.

The two, according to the prosecutor, DSP Patience Mario, conspired to rob and robbed one Beatrice Amonsima Yeboah of her Nokia Lumia phone worth GH¢300, a Samsung  Galaxy J5 valued at GH¢700 and a handbag containing some documents.

In the court, presided over by Aboagye Tandoh, the two admitted the charges and were sentenced on their own plea of guilty.

Sentencing the two, the judge said the court had taken into consideration the plea for mitigation by the accused persons and the five days they had been in police custody.

Mr. Tandoh however, slapped them with a 15-year-jail term each for each of the charges, to run concurrently.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant is a student resident at Agbogba in Accra, while the accused persons are also residents of Achimota, Accra.

On the day of the incident at about 2pm, Beatrice was walking to her mother’s house at Musuku when the accused persons, riding a motorbike, spotted and trailed her.

On reaching a spot near her mother’s house, the two attacked Beatrice at knife point and robbed her of the afore-stated items and escaped with their booty.

However, upon reaching Dome their vehicle collided with a taxi. Despite the accident, the two persons still wanted to escape on the motorbike but the driver of the vehicle raised an alarm.

The accused persons, sensing danger, abandoned their motorbike and took to their heels but they were chased and arrested.
