Two armed robbers that attacked four people at different locations at Jachie-Krofurom in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region have been sentenced to a total of 40 years’ imprisonment by the Asante Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by Fredrick Nawura.
Jerry Joel Kwadwo Okine, 22, and George Wireko aka Kwadwo Amoako, 25, will each serve 20 years in prison in hard labour.
The two pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, contrary to Sections 23 and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act 29 of 1960.
They started the robbery operation on June 28, 2018 around 6:40 pm.
The prosecutor, Detective Inspector Stephen Ofori, told the court that the convicts live in the same vicinity with the complainants.
According to him, the duo, who claimed to be driver’s mates, on the fateful day met at a drinking spot behind their house to hatch a plan to rob the victims of their property and money.
He narrated that the convicts took cutlasses and accosted one of the victims, Adwoa Serwaa, in a nearby bush around the Agape School in the community.
Inspector Ofori stated that Jerry Joel Kwadwo Okine and George Wireko managed to rob Adwoa Serwaa of her purse containing GH?135 and two mobile phones after threatening her with the machetes.
The court heard the convicts proceeded to another area called Cement where they robbed the second victim, Emmanuel Dong of his GH?42 and rosary.
Prosecutor said the third victim was a 14-year-old girl, who had been sent on an errand by her father.
The gang, which did not show mercy to the poor girl, also attacked and robbed her of a mobile phone and GH?7.
Inspector Ofori disclosed that fourth victim raised alarm at Awiankwanta which attracted people to the scene.
Prosecution said Jerry Joel Kwadwo Okine was apprehended and handed over to police, while George Wireko aka Kwadwo Amoako was later arrested.
The two admitted the offence in their caution statements.
They were charged and arraigned before court after police investigations.
