Suspect Charles Anomah and Kweku Charles in police custody

Two persons have been arrested by the police at Achimota for allegedly transporting 98 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp from Anfoegah, near Kpando in the Volta Region to Accra.

The suspects are Charles Anomah, 46, and Kweku Charles, 32-year-old driver.

Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, Inspector Kwabena Danso of the Accra Regional Public Relations Department, said the suspects were busted on Tuesday around 12:45pm.

The Regional Police Command received information that a truck laden with some quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was heading towards Achimota from the Volta Region.

Police patrol team was dispatched to the scene and spotted a Hino Cargo truck with the same description and registration number AS 7729-16 parked at the Shell filling station at Achimota.

Charles Anoma, took to his heels upon seeing the police, leaving behind Kweku Charles, driver of the vehicle at the scene.

The patrol team immediately gave him a hot chase, apprehended him.

The police later discovered three fertilizer sacks loaded with the dried leaves in the vehicle.

The suspects were transported to the regional command together with the exhibits for questioning.

Upon interrogations, the two men told the police that their boss sent them to deliver the items to a man at Achimota.

He said they were waiting for the said man at the filling station when the police apprehended them.

The two are still in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.
