Twenty-three Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Ashanti Region scored 100 percent during voting, it has been announced.
In all, 39 out of the 43 MMDCEs in the region have been confirmed by their various assemblies to lead as the President’s representatives for a four-year period, with only four being rejected so far.
Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, made the disclosure during a swearing-in ceremony of the 39 confirmed MMDCEs in Kumasi on Friday.
“Let me put on record that 23 of the nominees received 100 per cent approval for their assemblies,” he disclosed, and lauded the assemblymen for their efforts, urging all stakeholders to support the MMDCEs to deliver.
Simon Osei-Mensah pointed out that the MMDCEs could only deliver on their mandate and expedite development in their areas, when the people stayed united and properly supported them.
He also charged the MMDCEs to quickly hit the ground running by implementing better policies for accelerated development, saying “let me stress that work starts immediately. There is no time for honeymoon.”
Mr. Osei-Mensah also urged the MMDCEs to be humble and act as team players to champion the transformation of their assemblies, saying “we should demonstrate high level of humility and respect for all persons irrespective of status, religion, sex and ethnicity.”
He said the MMDCEs should make security, revenue generation, sanitation, and stopping of unauthorised buildings a priority.
The Ashanti Regional Minister cautioned the MMDCEs to stay away from all corrupt practices so that they would not have any issues with the law and bring the name of the government into disrepute.
