3 Armed Robbers Bag 120 Years

The suspects

Three armed robbers, who have been terrorising residents of Koforidua and its environs in the Eastern Region, have been sentenced to a total 120 years’ imprisonment in hard labour.

The convicts- Kwame Asare, alias Boys Abr3, Kofi Yakubu, alias Cobra and Samuel Berfi Appiah, alias Oscar, were each sentenced to 40 years’ imprisonment by the Koforidua Circuit Court (A), presided over by Janet Animah Marfo.

The court also ordered the convicts to pay GH¢66,000, being the cost of a Toyota Camry they snatched from the complainant and GH¢5,500, being the cost of an Apple beat pill speaker, HP laptop and an iPhone to the complainant.

According to the Police, the convicts, who have specialized in snatching cars, targeted many vehicle owners in the Eastern Region.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Regional Police Spokesperson, told DAILY GUIDE after the sentencing that the three convicts had also been jailed 20 years each in another robbery case.

He said another court would today deliver judgement in a robbery case involving the convicts.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said “they snatch the cars from victims, beat and tied them, lock them in the car boots, drive and dump them into the bush and bolt with the car and other stolen items.”

DSP Tetteh said the convicts were arrested on 7th February, 2018 by the Suhum Police Command upon a tip-off at about 11:30 pm.

A search conducted in their room revealed a stethoscope and sphygmomanometer.

“The victims, upon hearing their arrest, rushed to the Regional Police Station to identify them. We are very satisfied with the sentencing which would boost the fight against crime,” DSP Ebenezer Tetteh stated.
