The mangled Benz Bus and the Motorbike
Three persons died in an accident on the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom Road at Tilli in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
On May 7, 2018, seven persons on board an Urvan Bus also lost their lives in an accident at Yikurugu in the same district.
On the latest accident, eyewitnesses said two motorbikes were heading towards Zebilla on the tarred side of the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road.
A pick-up with registration number, GE-3425-18, reportedly rammed the Yamaha DT motorbike in an attempt to overtake the Benz Bus with registration number NR-1057-P, which had some passengers on board.
The motorbike rider veered off the road and Benz Bus ran over his pillion rider, killing him instantly.
As at the time of filing the report, the motor rider had been admitted at the Zebilla Government Hospital.
None of the passengers on board the pick-up and Benz Bus died in the accident.
Those who sustained injuries were admitted at the Zebilla Government Hospital, according to eyewitnesses.
Deputy Upper East Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Frank Fuseini Adongo, visited the accident scene and called on drivers using the road to be careful.
“If drivers using the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom Road will be a little mindful of their speed on the road, especially on the tarred portion, many accidents wouldn’t happen. In less than a week, 10 people have lost their lives in road accidents. This is bad and we should not keep quiet and watch people die in these accidents that could have been prevented. Let’s start talking and remind ourselves that over speeding kills. If we keep reminding ourselves on daily basis, drivers, riders and even passengers would be careful on the road.”
