Patrick Akosihu
The investigation unit of the Tema Regional branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in collaboration with the police, has arrested three persons at Ashaiman in connection with alleged stealing and selling of ECG electric metres to unsuspecting individuals.
The name of the prime culprit was given as Patrick Akosihu, a 35-year-old resident of Jericho at Ashaiman.
His two accomplices were identified as Richard Kudaya, a 30-year-old resident of Jericho and Victor Kpogli, who resides at Zongo-Lakka at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.
Two stolen metres with serial numbers PO7101748 and PO9140451 were retrieved from them.
They sold each a metre at a cost of GHC550 to most of their customers.
Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, the General Manager of the Tema Regional ECG, Ing. Joseph Mensah Forson, told journalists that his outfit picked intelligence that some unscrupulous people had been selling stolen ECG metres to the public at Ashaiman.
He explained that the three suspects were arrested based on intelligence.
“On May 10, 2018, at about 3:00 am, a team made up of police and Tema Revenue Protection, who were acting based on intelligence gathered, stormed their various homes and arrested them together with the evidence,” he stated.
According to him, the suspects, besides selling property of ECG, have also tampered with their personal metres in their various homes to reduce the amount of power consumed, as a way of outwitting ECG.
“Patrick was initially arrested and he mentioned the names of his two accomplices. He further led police to the houses of the two and they were also arrested,” he narrated.
The General Manager said that the three suspects are in the custody of the police assisting with investigations.
