Three persons have been reported injured following the attempted robbery on a bullion van at the North Industrial Area in Accra.
The three civilians sustained the injuries when the robbers who were fleeing the scene fired indiscriminately into a crowd.
According to a statement from the police, the injured persons have been admitted at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.
“The Inspector-General of Police has spoken to the medical team at the hospital and the victims and assured them of the needed support,” the statement said without mentioning the nature of injuries the vicitms sustained.
But the police indicated that the armoured bullion vehicle “saved the lives of the officials and the police officer on board the vehicle, even though the robbers fired into the van.”
“It has therefore become necessary to re-echo the Police Administration’s call for all financial institutions in the country to resort to the use of such fit for purpose vehicles for their cash in transit activities.”
Recently, the Ghana Police Service had threatened to withdraw its services if the banks failed to provide them with the necessary logistics to protect its men.
Police in the Greater Accra Region foiled an attempted robbery attack on a bullion van at the North Industrial Area on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.
The Ghana Police Service said the suspects are being pursued by anti-robbery teams.
They have therefore appealed to the public to volunteer useful information that will lead to the arrest of the culprits.
This incident occurred a couple of months after a police officer was shot and killed by armed robbers at James Town in Accra in a robbery attack on a bullion van last year.
