Three students from the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) who are currently in police custody are expected to be arraigned before court for their alleged involvement in the hooliganism that ensued between Obrachire Senior High Technical School and Swedru School of Business during the recent District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru, Central Region, on February 19, 2026.

The suspects, Joseph Amoh, 20; Benedict Appiah, 18; and Bilal Mamud, 18, were arrested after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, yesterday visited the Swedru School of Business to engage management on the circumstances leading to the violent incident.

The police said they are enhancing investigations to arrest other suspects believed to have been involved in the hooliganism. The Service strongly condemned the violence and assured the public that all perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the affected victims who were hospitalised after sustaining various degrees of injuries are said to have been discharged after receiving care.

This development was made known by the Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. Juliette Dufie Otami, in an interview with journalists.

“They have all been treated, and they have all been brought back to the schools, and they are okay now. As we speak now, all those who were injured were sent to the hospital, received the appropriate medical care, and were discharged,” she said.

Dr. Otami explained that while some of the students were discharged on Saturday, others were released on Sunday after responding positively to treatment.

She further disclosed that parents of the injured students were invited by school authorities, and expressed satisfaction with the way the matter was handled.

This incident between the two schools occurred on February 19, 2026 during the recent District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru, injuring three in total—one hospitalised for internal bleeding but now stable.

Games Suspension

Videos of the clash between students of SWESBUS and Obrachire SHTS recently went viral on social media.

This led the authorities to issue a statement to disrupt the Agona Swedru Zonal Inter-Schools Athletics Games.

This development was made known by the Central Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), emphasising that all sporting activities among Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) have been suspended till further notice. In a statement issued on February 22, 2026, the Directorate expressed grave concern, noting that the disturbances had undermined the purpose of school sports and posed significant risks to students, staff and spectators.

It stated that the directive is to safeguard lives and maintain order, as well as to further allow for a comprehensive review of the situation and consultations with stakeholders to design preventive strategies against future occurrences.

Heads of SHSs and SHTSs across the region have been instructed to halt all scheduled competitions, inform students and staff accordingly, and ensure strict compliance with the directive.

“Please note that this directive takes immediate effect and must be adhered to without exception,” the letter emphasised.
