The four suspected armed robbers in police custody.
Four young men accused of snatching a taxi cab from its driver at Potsin in the Central Region and were offering it for sale at Agbogbloshie in Accra have been busted.
The suspects are Emmanuel Osei aged 22, Abdul Razaq Mohammed, 23 years, Daniel Yeboah, 22 and Kweku Anim, 22 years.
Police report indicated that the suspects on January 13, 2018, allegedly hired the services of the taxi driver from Winneba to Potsin and half way through their journey, they attacked him and took the vehicle.
They then brought the vehicle to Accra to sell but the Accra Central District Police had a tip off of their activity and apprehended suspects Osei and Razak in the process.
The two then led the police to Budumburam where Yeboah and Anim were also arrested.
The young men, according to the police, hired the services of the taxi driver, “name withheld” in charge of a Kia Picanto with registration number GX 3027-17 from Winneba Roundabout to Potsin.
Upon reaching Potsin, suspects, according to police, compelled the driver to drive to the outskirts of the town and in the process, Osei who was then seated in the front seat of the car pulled a machete on the driver.
The report said suspects then pulled the driver out of the car, tied his hands and legs with a rope and used his own duster and handkerchief to gag him to prevent him from making noise, after which they fled with the car.
The police said, the suspects drove the vehicle to Agbogbloshie to sell and so personnel from the Accra Centra District Police Command, upon a tip off, deployed men to the scene to feign interest in the deal.
Suspects Osei and Razak who claimed ownership of the vehicle were apprehended and upon interrogations, they confessed that they robbed the vehicle from a victim at Winneba.
The two suspects were later sent to Winneba and when the Winneba police organized an identification parade on January 16, 2018, the victim identified Osei and Razak as his attackers.
The two suspects then led the police to Budumburam where Yeboah and Anim were hiding to apprehend them.
The suspects are currently in the custody of the Winneba police awaiting trial.
