The suspects
Six persons are in the custody of the Ghana Police Service assisting with investigation for illegally dealing in fire arms.
The suspects were arrested upon a tip-off and intelligence-led operation which started in a commercial vehicle.
An AK 47 assault rifle with 12 rounds of ammunitions were found hidden in one of the suspects’ traveling bag when onboard an Accra-Bawku bound Yutoung bus.
A statement from the police issued Monday December 6, 2021, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, Director General, Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, said the first suspect, Alhassan Jammah was arrested near Osino by the National Operation Directorate, Highway during a stop and search operation which revealed the AK 47 rifle.
An intelligence-led operation later led to the arrest of five other suspects, namely; Bashiru Salifu, Kassim Aninga, Mohammed Asaka, Salifu James and Ibrahim Mohammed for their involvement in illegal arms transaction.
The Police Administration therefore commended the Patrol team for their effort and deligence before thanking the passengers onboard the bus when the operation was carried out for their cooperation and understanding.
Police further assured the public of their commitment to work to ensure safety of the citizenry.
