A total of six aspirants have officially picked nomination forms at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Greater Accra regional party office to contest the upcoming Ayawaso East parliamentary primary.
The aspirants are Baba Jamal Ahmed, Yakubu Azindow, Abdulsalam Mohamed Daaru, Mohammed Ramne, popularly known as Alabi, Amina Adams Mahama, and Najib Mohammed Sani.
The development signals the formal beginning of the internal race within the party. Party insiders say the keen interest shown by the six aspirants underscores the strategic importance of the constituency and reflects growing confidence within the party about its chances in the area.
Each of the aspirants is expected to outline his or her vision for the constituency, with a strong focus on key issues such as youth unemployment, education, sanitation, infrastructure development, security, and inclusive governance. They are also anticipated to intensify grassroots engagement by interacting with party delegates, branch executives, opinion leaders, and residents across the constituency.
Officials of the NDC have called on all aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful, disciplined, and respectful manner, in line with the party’s code of conduct. The party leadership has emphasised the need for unity before, during, and after the primary, noting that internal cohesion will be critical to securing victory in the general election.
Sources at the regional party office indicate that the nomination exercise forms part of broader preparations by the NDC to strengthen its constituency-level structures and energise the party’s grassroots ahead of the polls. The party is expected to announce timelines for the close of nominations, vetting of aspirants, and the date for the primary in the coming days.
Ayawaso East remains one of the most competitive constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, and the outcome of the NDC primary is expected to draw significant political attention. Party supporters are hopeful that the process will produce a candidate capable of uniting the party and mounting a strong challenge in the parliamentary contest.
