Dr. Afriyie Osei Akoto
The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Afriyie Osei Akoto has announced that over 600 Ghanaian students are currently in Isreal receiving training in the use of greenhouse technology to work on the villages when they return.
According to him, these students will work on the three Greenhouse villages that have been established in Dawhenya, Akumadan, and Bawjiase to produce vegetables.
The Minister who announced this during a talk show on Adom FM said the Akufo-Addo led government intends to make Ghana self-sufficient and reduce import rate with these interventions, adding that “It is my firm belief that contributions from each PFJ module will reduce suffering on farmers and benefit the ordinary Ghanaian”.
He said the current government has put in place amazing and unmatched measures that have seen the five modules of the Planting for Food and Jobs(PFJ) initiative benefit various stakeholders in the agriculture sector, especially, farmers and traders.
Also, under this same administration produce are now affordable to the rich and poor.
The Minister who spoke on other issues concluded that in a bid to supplement government revenue from agriculture, the Ministry Of Food And Agriculture Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA) and other partners are embarking on a project to produce six tree crops using a similar module as the cocoa industry. These tree crops are oil palm, rubber, coconut, shea, cash, ew, and mango.
