Mohammed Bakor
The Wa Magistrate Court has remanded sevenĀ supportersĀ of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into police custody for their various roles in disturbances in the Sissala West District. They have beenĀ charged withĀ rioting.
It will be recalled that some NPP youth at Gwollu in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region locked the office of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mohammed Bakor.
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicated that the youth stormed the DCEās office following the rejection of their preferred choice for the Micro-finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) coordinator for the district.
According to the youth, theyĀ sealed off the office when they realized that Mr. Bakor was not around at the time they went there; they therefore threatened to visitĀ mayhem on him, if he was spotted in the area.
Reports gathered maintained that the NPP constituency chairman, Kanchuo Dramani, went to discuss with the DCE the person who should be made the MASLOC coordinator, but he (DCE) refused and allegedly spoke in a rather unpleasant manner to him (chairman).
The action of the DCE towards the partyās constituency chairman angered the youth, who went there with intent to attack him, but he was rescued by some staff of the assembly who reportedly hinted the DCE about the plot.
Meanwhile, the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, has warned that police commanders who fail to ensure arrests and prosecution in vigilante-related incidents will face sanctions
The governmentās commitment to ensuring security has been questioned following the recent upsurge in the number of incidents involving political vigilante groups linked to the ruling party across the country.
