86 Ghanaians Deported From US

Kwame Asuah Takyi-Controller Of Ghana Immigration Service and Hon Shirley Ayorkor Botwe, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Eighty six Ghanaian deportees arrived at the Kotoka International Airport last Tuesday aboard an Omni International Airport chartered aircraft.

The deportees who arrived in shackles were understandably agitated; the state in which they arrived being a factor.

DAILY GUIDE has reliably learnt that sixty four of the deportees bore travel certificates and the rest Ghana Passport. It was, however, discovered that the travel certificates bore similar serial numbers – an anomaly which was referred to the Ghana Mission in Washington.

Earlier, the mission had validated the travel certificates.

The deportees were accompanied by 41 escorts including paramedics. The all-male deportees were aged between 21 and 55. Upon screening, it was established by the relevant agency that there were all Ghanaians after which they were taken through arrival formalities.

Some of the charges for which they were deported included shoplifting, obstructing police, public order crime, family offence, intimidation, drug dealing and weapon offence.
