A section of the sworn-in MDCEs
Nine nominees for the position of municipal and district chief executives (MDCEs) at various assemblies in the Ashanti Region have been sworn into office after receiving approval from members.
They are Eric Kwaku Kusi, Adansi North District; Alexander Frimpong, Asante-Akim South District; Catherine Reckling, Sekyere South District; Kwaku Kyei Baffour, Bekwa Municipal Assembly and Nana Okyere Tawia Antwi, Atwima Kwanwoma District.
The rest are Mary Boatenmaa Marfo, Sekyere East District; Michael Awuku Amoah, Atwima Nwabiagya District; David Akwesi Asare, Offinso North District and Solomon Kesse, Offinso South Municipal Assembly.
Heads of department and other governmental agencies watched the nominees take the oath of office administered by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, at a ceremony held at the Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi.
Also in attendance were the Ashanti Regional Deputy Minister, Elisabeth Agyeman, and the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Osei Assibey Antwi.
The regional minister admonished the new MDCEs to eschew partisanship in their work and make the development of their respective districts their major preoccupation at all times.
Mr. Osei-Mensah also urged them to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them since they were taking office at a time challenges face their various districts.
He mentioned some of them as sanitation and environmental degradation as a result of illegal mining operations and other human activities.
The minister wants the new MDCEs to take the issue of assets registration, inventory of assets, lateness and absenteeism seriously for smooth economic development.
