ABOUT 95 MEMBERS of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Abesewa in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency have crossed the carpet to join the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Led by one Mohammed Alhassan, the NDC members cited the outstanding works of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government, especially the introduction of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy, to have influenced them.

The NDC members were introduced to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh affectionately called Napo, the NPP running mate, when he stormed Abesewa to campaign for Dr. Bawumia.

Napo, who was at Abesewa to campaign for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano South East, Frederick Acheampong, officially welcomed the NDC members into the NPP on Wednesday.

The leader of the defectors, Mohammed Alhassan, in an interview with the DAILY GUIDE, said they have served the NDC all their lives but, unfortunately, they didn’t get anything in return to better their lives.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government has introduced several social intervention policies, which has benefited them and their families, hence their decision to join the NPP.

“Our children have benefited from the famous Free SHS programme, which was introduced by the NPP administration. The NPP have proven that they have what it takes to develop the country,” he noted.

Mohammed Alhassan also said Frederick Acheampong, the NPP parliamentary candidate in the area, is a hardworking and development-oriented person so they decided to join the NPP to support his parliamentary bid.

“We have not only joined the NPP, in fact, we have also formed Nasara in the Zongo communities in the constituency, and we have resolved to help the NPP to win most of the votes in the Zongo communities,” he said.

Mohammed Alhassan, who was very happy to have joined the NPP, also said he and his group would work hard to convince more NDC members in Abesewa to cross carpet to the NPP before the December 7 polls.
