The Chartered Institute Of Bankers (CIB) is partnering the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to provide special training to operators of micro-finance institutions in the country.

The training, according to the Institute, will enhance the operations of the micro-finance institutions and also bring sanity into the sector.

Patricia Sappor, President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, who made this known in an interview with BUSINESS GUIDE, said “The non-financial sector is contributing a lot to business growth and so we are going to collaborate with the Central Bank to see how best we can support the micro-finance institutions by way of training.”

She said the training course would also enhance the skills of micro-finance institutions in the delivery of their services.

“We want to involve them in all our activities and organize customized programmes for them which will help them in their operations,” Mrs. Sappor said.

She said the Institute is also poised to introducing digital banking, explaining that “Banking has taken another dimension and it’s all about digital banking”.

“My plan is to make the institute a world class banking learning center. So one of the things I planned to do is to introduce digital banking in our curriculum to churn out digital survey bankers.

“The whole world is changing so we must also change, and digital banking is the future and so we must all embrace it,” Mrs. Sappor said.

She said technology is putting the power of banking in the hands of our customers and there is the need for the banking sector to move accordingly.
