The Plau divisional Chief
THE Divisional Chiefs and opinion leaders of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council in the Eastern Region have appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo to, as a matter of urgency, set up an independent body to conduct investigation into the selection of Yilo Krobo MCE nominees before giving any approval.
According to the chiefs, the nominees vetted by the constituency executives are not the people’s choice and approval given to any of them may generate confusion in the area; therefore as concerned elders they are entreating the President to act before the situation gets out of hand.
The chiefs in a joint press statement issued and signed by the Plau Divisional chief, Nene Tetteh Agblezee II observed that, some of the nominees vetted by the constituency executives are not competent to run the office of MCE therefore they deem fit to add their voice to the demand of the overwhelming majority that the President should give the nod to someone whose loyalty to the New Patriotic Party is undoubted; competent, dynamic, hardworking and a visionary as a Municipal Chief Executive for the people of Yilo Krobo.
According to the divisional chiefs, a good number of competent people were left out after the short listing exercise by the Constituency Electoral College headed and chaired by the Constituency Party Chairman.
They indicated that, the Constituency Party Chairman, Koranteng Twum has a hidden agenda in the whole exercise “hence did not consult any of us; neither party elders nor opinions leaders.”
”Prior to the shortlisted exercise, the constituency chairman confided in Nene Tetteh Agblezee III, the Plau Divisional Chief that there are some people if they should apply for the position would not be shortlisted”.
Narrating further, the chiefs said true to the chairman’s words, a particular name he mentioned to them was not shortlisted, likewise others, thus they suspected the chairman’s activity to be unfair and dubious.
They stressed that after the short listing exercise, a lot of eyebrows were raised and there was a general discontent among both party and non-party members.
The chiefs revealed that, as custodians of the land, the aggrieved citizens approached them to register their displeasure with some threatening to go on demonstrations and other activities that would not augur well for the party.
“We have been able to calm down the anger of the NPP members and the youth to hold their peace. President, we are therefore appealing to you to take a second look at the shortlisted nominees presented to you.”
“We also want Mr President to appoint a competent MCE who we can work with to develop Yilo Krobo, someone who fits into the President’s visions and aspirations and who can expand the party’s support base to enhance the chances of the NPP in future general elections,” they added.
